About the role:

This role is designed for a Ph.D. genomicist who has research experience in complex trait analysis and devising polygenic risk scores. Subspecialties of merit include animal science, population genetics, and/or statistical genetics.

Successful candidates will have experience working in collaborative environments with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is skilled in bioinformatics, proficient in programming with Python and R, and strong in statistics and data science.

This role reports to the Senior Director of Discovery and Commercialization. The position will reside in Boston, MA.

What you’ll do:

The Research Scientist for polygenic risk scores will support R&D focused on resolving and modeling complex disease risks to advance Embark’s effort to deliver a best-in-class genetic health product to pet parents, breeders, and veterinarians.

  • This person will be of an important member of a cross-functional team focused on dissecting the genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors that confer risk for complex phenotypes in the dog
  • Assist in designing, conducting, analyzing and interpreting quantitative and complex trait gene mapping studies
  • Liaise with scientists of strategic partners to coordinate, track and complete R&D initiatives that hold promise for canine health and longevity
  • Work closely with population geneticists and and statistical genomicists to develop, test and refine multifactorial models of disease susceptibility 
  • Be an excellent contributor through standardized reporting and documentation

What experience we’re looking for:

  • Ph.D. and post-graduate training in animal science, population genetics and/or statistical genomics
  • 3+ years of R&D experience in animal biotechnology
  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL and cloud computing
  • Plus if work experience in project management and/or business development
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a high growth, results-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to collaborate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deep passion for dog health
